VoIP Glossary - Definitions + Acronyms
Here is a glossary of terms related to VoIP, Voice over Internet Protocol. Please note that the list is subject to changes as the it grows. This includes a possible change from existing links (mostly to Wikipedia) to links elsewhere or on this site.
- CCXML: Call Control eXtensible Markup Language.
- ITSP: Internet Telephony Service Provider.
- IVR: Interactive Voice Response.
- PDA: Personal Digital Assistant.
- POTS: Plain Old Telephone System.
- PSTN: Public Switched Telephone Network.
- SIP: Session Initiation Protocol.
- VoiceXML: Voice eXtensible Markup Language.
- VoIP: Voice over Internet Protocol.
- WAP: Wireless Access Protocol.
- WiFi: Wireless Fidelity - general wireless network access, sometimes referring to Internet access.
- WML: Wireles Markup Language - the smartphone equivalent of XHTML
- WoIP: Voice and Video over Internet Protocol. The “double V” makes the “W”.
