MyGlobalCity - Publisher’s Agenda March 17, 2006
MyGlobalCity.com exists for a number of purposes. First and foremost, it exists to showcase companies, technologies, software, and gadgets that bring us closer together as a global society - a global city, if you will. This includes anything that makes it easier for all of us to be mobile, to move around with ease.
It also exists to highlight where technologies have gone or will go wrong. I am, for example, the strangest dichotomy of part-Luddite and full on gadget freak. But while I am sucker for cool gadgets and love well written websites like TechnologyEvangelist (Better Living Through Technology), I am not a strong believer in the idea that technology should utterly and completely run our lives, or that it should replace something non-electronic, say, that already works.
For example, I don’t mind that we use debit cards and smart cards, but I’m against completely replacing all hard currency with digital money for many, many social and financial reasons that I’ve written about passionately over the years. I do, however, believe that many technologies help us as individuals or even societies as a whole.
As such, this site will focus on technologies that move us towards a true global city. Any gadgets or technologies that do not specifically fall into this genre will be discussed on another site that I’m collaborating on with another blogger - due out later this year.
Articles published here will also include the use of technologies. For example, for a while, you may see a bias towards articles about PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants) - in particular the PalmOne Treo, as I just acquired one. I’ll cycle around specific technologies and products for a while, then move on.
This agenda satisfies both the gadgethead and Luddite in me. It’s my hope that other writers will eventually join me in this project, even and especially if they disagree with me. While I do have an editorial agenda of balancing both views, I’m particularly open to reviews of gadgets/ software/ technologies, as well as tutorials on the use of such.
NOTE: If you have a technology, software package or gadget that you’d like reviewed, please feel free to contact me. It’ll either be reviewed here on the other gadget blog that I’m collaborating on. My email is blogspinner AT gmail dot com (mangled to fool spambots). Please include the phrase “technology review” or “gadget review” in the subject line. I’ll provide a private email if necessary.
Gadgets can be any type of consumer or non-consumer electronics that somehow support the global city aspect of technology. All gadgets will be returned, if necessary; however, postage/ courier fees must be at your expense. We are also open to being beta testers, at no charge, provided that we get to be thoroughly honest in our reviews. We will typically defer to your schedule in terms of releasing any reviews.

Great brand for a blog, MyGlobalCity.com Congrats…Ro
Ro, thanks very much
Believe it or not, I came up with it last year and had absolutely no idea what to do with it. Until two days ago. But guess what? It was sort of inspired by the great blog you guys have over at Technology Evangelist. I’m taking a different angle, but it’s still inspired.
Roo - my Dr. Suess “Whoville” nickname
Fun, glad we could provide a bit of inspiration, that is one of our missions…..keep spreading the word….Ro
